Ilana Herzig is a queer arts & culture writer and photographer from California, based in Brooklyn. Her work explores the fringes and intersections of the worlds of art, culture, scientific innovation, and social justice. Ilana is currently a contributing author at National Geographic Books. Ilana previously worked as a Senior Editor at Archaeology Magazine, an Associate Editor at Architectural Record, and as the co-Editor-in-Chief of Lunch Rush. While at Lunch Group, Ilana collaboratively launched the Lunch Rush newsletter, which sought to highlight the dynamic people and projects re-imagining the food & beverage industry through abolitionist, innovative, and creative lenses centering equity, social impact, & cultural heritage.
Ilana’s other previous roles include: Editorial Lead for Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen, Staff Writer at No Man’s Land magazine, and Editorial Director as well as Art Director of Body Politic (a queer feminist wellness collective & event series), where Ilana helped spearhead the publication, Body Type, as well as a virtual events newsletter. Ilana’s work has also appeared in The Los Angeles Times, The Brooklyn Rail, The Los Angeles Free Press, Hyperallergic, Artsy, and Psychology Today. Ilana holds a BA in Anthropology and International Studies from Northwestern University as well as a Masters in Journalism from Columbia University’s Journalism School.
